Bobtail Bull (Hocus-ta-ris/Hucus-ta-nix/ Hocus-terricks)Arikara Indian scout with Seventh U.S. Cavalry, enlisted April 26, 1876, at age 45, at Ft. Lincoln, for six months. Enlisted by Lt. W.W. Cooke. First leader of the Ree scouts. Leader of the rescue party for Red Bear from Camp No. 8 in the march of the expedition to the Powder River. Leader of the first scouting party on June 22. With Custer at the Crow's nest on June 25th. Advanced with Reno's column down Little Big Horn valley. Killed in valley fight.

Strike Two: "A soldier was on Bob Tail's horse, Bob Tail having been killed, and we took his horse and put him among the pack mules. Bob Tail's horse had blood marks down his legs and on hoofs and saddle, so we concluded he (Bob Tail) was wounded and killed after crossing the river--that is on the east side."
