Date of death is per Missouri death certificate 17390. Certificate states that he was born in Germany in June 1810 but lists age as 91 years. Burial in Burr Oak Cemetery June 18, 1910.

From the Skidmore New Era (Skidmore, Missouri), June 23, 1910, page 1:
"Michael Smith was born in Sweinfort Germany in the year 1819, Died June 17, 1910.

He came to America when young. Married to Elizabeth Etter at Louisville, Ky. in 1855. Moved to Yorktown Indiana in 1861, from there to Kansas where he remained nine years, then moving to Missouri where he has since resided.

Four children were born to them two sons and two daughters. One girl dying in her youth the other lives in Washington Kans. The two sons living here. He joined the German Methodist Church at Oregon, Mo. many years ago. Lived a very busy and useful life and departed mourned by children, grandchildren, neighbors and friends. Funeral services conducted by Reuben Barrett at Burr Oak June 18. - R. Barrett"
