Military Service : Civil service in the Revolutionary War; Patriot. He was a representative from Rockingham to the Vermont state legislature in 1778, 1779, 1780, 1781, 1782, 1783, during almost the whole period of the war, serving on several committees. It has been suggested that Colonel Ethan Allen frequented his home during the Revolution.

1994 04 Nov Leslie Hall read the inscription on Joshua Webb's tombstone: "He settled in this town at the early age of it, was honored with many offices of trust in town & state, with zeal & fidelity employed his talents in building up of civil & religious societies in town, aided in promoting the cause of liberty in the Revolution of our country and in organizing and building up this state through a long course in public business, was generally accepted as a man of talents and integrity."
Joshua Webb had been a merchant & trader in Union (Tolland) CT, also sheriff of that county, before moving to Westminster (Windham) VT.
1765 Oct Joshua moved from CT to Westminster, VT.
1765 Joshua was employed by Westminster to teach school the next winter.
1766 Joshua was a delelgate from Westminster to several conventions of New Hampshire
1766 Joshua moved to Rockingham, VT, moved back to Westminster, returned to Rockingham where he bought a farm and built his home. This farm was later divided into 3 parcels, one each to his sons, Luther, Charles, and Calvin.
1767 Joshua resided in the NW part of Rockingham for about a year before returning to Westminster where he lived on a farm known as "Church Farm" which was just south of Bellows falls. Tradition has it that Joshua was instrumental in naming Windham Co., VT.
1777 15 Jan Joshua was a delegate to the convention held at Westminster when VT was declared a separate 7 independent state.
1777 Joshua moved to Rockingham, VT, and bought land on the Connecticut river 1 mile north of Bellows Falls. It now, in 1877, belongs to Carleton & Joseph m. Webb, having been in the Webb family for 100 years.
1777 Spring Joshua returned to Rockingham permanently.
He often entertained Ethan Allen of the Green Mountain Boys in his home.
Joshua was one of the Liberty Men of the Revolutionary times and active in creating the state of Vermont.

Hannah Ripley Webb was a granddaughter of Gov. William Bradford.
