Obituary, Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home (Newport, NH), Dec 2011:

Unity, NH: Helen E. Davis, 71, of Old Cheshire County Road, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2011, at the Woodlawn Care Center, following a short period of declining health.

Helen was born in Newport, NH, on January 1, 1940, coming in second place as the New Year's Baby that day but left in first place judged by the many family and friends she touched throughout her lifetime. She was one of four children born to Owen and Elvira (Smith) Johnson, raised and educated here and graduated from Towle High School in the Class of 1958. She married James E. Davis on January 1, 1958, and shared 53 years together. Helen was a homemaker for much of her life. Although she worked for a time at the Pine Restaurant and for Peterson's Plastics her main work was as a babysitter, becoming a second mother, an "Auntie" or "Grammy" to many children, now adults, in the area. She enjoyed canning & pickling, loved her cats and kept a very, very neat house. In her home she was always the Hostess and no one ever left hungry, thirsty or without a laugh. Her family and friends meant everything to her and she loved traveling with them, visiting 38 states in one trip and to Hawaii five times. Helen's passing leaves a void that can only begin to be filled by the love and laughter she left to each one she knew.

Survivors include her husband, James E. of Unity, her daughter, Jamie H. Callum and her husband, Tom, of Unity, her granddaughter, Katelyn E. Callum, of Sunapee, NH, several nieces and nephews and many more honorary nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brother: Leonard Johnson, and her two sisters: Pearl Wright and Florence Rowe.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1PM on Sunday, December 11, 2011, at the Newport Moose Club, Golf Club Drive in Newport. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Helen's name to the Woodlawn Care Center, 84 Pine Street, Newport, NH 03773.
