Jacob Schechter, Sr., a veteran of the Civil War, died early yesterday morning at his home, 1317 East Market street, New Albany, of old age. He was born in Germany nearly eighty-six years ago, but had lived in and near New Albany for more than fifty years. He served during the Civil War in one of the Indiana regiments, and was wounded in battle. Twelve years ago he became totally blind on account of these injuries, and since that time he has been receiving a pension of $72 a month. His wife died nine years ago, and he is survived by six children - John, Jacob and George Schechter, Mrs. Margaret Trinler and Miss Katherine Schechter, of New Albany, and Christian Schechter, of Chicago. He was a member of the German Evangelical church, at which place his funeral services will be held to-morrow afternoon."
