LULA IDELL WHITE (Mrs. E.J. Mayeaux)

Beloved Resident Found Dead Early Friday; Hundreds Attend Rites

Funeral services for Mrs. E.J. Mayeaux, 53, who was found dead in her home early Friday morning, were held at 3 pm Sunday from the First Baptist Church with Rev. M.E. Williamson of Port Arthur, Texas and Rev. W.F. Town Jr., officiating. Burial was in the St. Louis Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home.

The news of Mrs. Mayeaux's sudden death was a shock to the entire community. A resident of the community for the past 30 years, she was widely known for her active participation in church work, especially her interest and work among the young people of the Baptist church. For more than 20 years she taught the cradle roll class, the very youngest at the Baptist Sunday School here, and later became interested in working with an older group of young people in the church. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Union.

The former Lula Idell White, she was born in Catahoula Parish, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.V. White. She and Mr. Mayeaux moved to Eunice in 1919 and for many years assisted her husband in operating a small store near Eunice High School, where she became known and loved by two generations of school children. At the time of her death, she was working with Mr. Mayeaux in their dry-cleaning establishment on South Ninth Street.

In addition to her husband, two children survive; a son, Aaron Earl Mayeaux of San Diego, California; and a daughter, Mrs. Oscar Prudhomme Jr., of Eunice; three grandchildren, Charlotte Sue, 7, Kenneth Wayne, 6, and Carol jean, 3, children of Mr. and Mrs. Prudhomme, and three stepchildren of San Diego. Also surviving are three brothers, J.L. White, Monroe; Ernest White, Calhoun, and Mann White, Jonesville; two sisters, Mrs. Perry Mercer, Monroe, and Mrs. Alfred Nichols, Larton, Louisiana.

Pall bearers were C.A. Randel, Gayle Pinson, Dewitt Sittig, Whitney Miller, Grant Prudhomme and Garrett Prudhomme.
