Andrew H. Dekock, Jr. was born on Tuesday; December 12, 1939 in the Netherlands. He was the son of: Andrew and Elizabeth (Byl) DeKock. In 1948, they came to America and made their home in Pella; Marion County, Iowa. He moved to Marshalltown; Marshall County, Iowa in 1964, where he worked at Fisher Controls for 35 years before retiring in 1999. On Sunday; November 16, 1975, he married Nancy (Frohwein) Weuve and they enjoyed thirty-six years together, traveling to many different places including Alaska, Hawaii, Germany, and Holland on several occasions. Andy didn't know a stranger. He talked to everyone. He was fondly known as the 'mint man' because he always had a box of Dutch mints with him that he would share with everyone around. He enjoyed telling jokes and making people laugh and throughout his illness, was almost never without a funny quip to lighten the mood and put people at ease. He enjoyed farming and selling sweet corn for Bill and Paul Veren and giving presentations to various service clubs and schools, showing his slides of Holland and talking about what it was like living there during World War II. Andy was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where he served as an elder, council member, and usher.
