Donald Orley Champ, 60

Donald Orley Champ, 60, of Winchester, passed away Monday, August 22, 2011 at St. Vincent Randolph Hospital, Winchester.

He was born December 5, 1950 in Portland to the late Nellie (Robbins) Mullinex and Ona Sylvester Champ. Donald attended school in Union City, Ohio, and Greenville, Ohio. He went into the Army when he was 16 and served in the Vietnam War where he received a Purple Heart.

Donald is survived by his wife of 27 years, Julia Catherine "Katie" (Henchon) Champ; seven brothers and sisters, Mary Stephenson (husband Carl) of Bluffton, Betty Hardwick (husband Richard) of Union City, Ind., George Champ of Greenville, Ohio, James Champ of Fort Recovery, Ohio, Bessy Davis of Winchester, Leroy Champ of Union City, Ind., and William Champ of Union City, Ohio; seven children, Julie Vore (husband Dave), Christina White, Charles Griswold, David Griswold, John Champ (wife Crystal), Crystal Champ, Sandy Champ; 13 grandchildren, Christopher White, Amber Willoughby (husband Shon), Damon White, Jenniffer Vore, Shadae Phillips, Hannah Champ, Luke Champ, Alexis Champ, Emily Champ, Catherine Vore, Stephen Champ, Stephanie Bastin and Spencer Bastin; one great granddaughter, Heavyn Willoughby; and one niece, Wilma Jenkins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, May VaNote; and a half brother, Jim Slick.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday at Walker Funeral Home, Winchester, with Pastor Tim Stigers officiating. Burial will follow at Marion National Cemetery, Marion.
