He was a US Congressman; received an academic education at the Lansingburgh Academy; studied law; in 1805 was the Justice of the Peace in Greenbush, New York; was 2nd Lieutenant of the Fourth Battery of the Troy City Flying Artillery during the War of 1812;was admitted to the bar in 1817 and commenced practice in Troy; surrogate of Rensselaer County 1815-1818; district attorney 1818-1821; elected as an Adams candidate to the Nineteenth Congress (March 4, 1825-March 3, 1827); resumed the practice of law; moved to Texas in 1833; returned to Brunswick, N.Y., the following year, where he died January 18, 1835.
