from news paper article Sept.14, 1898: A WORKMAN ON THE MONOGAHELA RAILWAY CO.'S VIADUCT AT THOMPSON RUN MET DEATH THIS MORNING-William McClees, of W. Elizabeth fell a distance of 80 ft from the viaduct being erected over Thompson Run for the Monogahela St. Railway Co. about 10 o'clock this morning & was instantly killed. The particulars of the accident could not be learned at this writing. McClees is a very well-known & popular young man & the news of his untimely death will be received with regret. He is the son of Thomas McClees, righ-of-way agent for the Pitssburg, Virginia & Charleston Railroad Co. A brother, Harry S. McClees is employed at Cochran Station.
Next day's paper: William McClees of W. Elizabeth the young man who was killed yesterday morning by falling from the viaduct of the Monogahela St. Railway Co, now building over Thompson Run will be laid to rest at East Elizabeth Cemetery. Just how the young man came to fall is not known & those who were nearby could not explain the cause & it is believed he became lightheaded which caused him to lose his balance & fall. The young man fell a distane of 65 feet alighting on his head & left shoulder. The left hip was also broken & death was instantaneous. The coroner's jury rendered a verdict of accidental death.
