Aug. 25, 1932 – July 20, 2001
Velma AMBURGY, 68, 401 W. Washington St., Mentone, died at 5:30 p.m. Friday at
Prairie View Health Care, Warsaw.
Born in Floyd County, Ky. to Perry and Nolia SWORD NEWSOME, she married
Charles D. AMBURGY Dec. 4, 1954 in Martin, Ky. He died Oct. 15, 1996.
Mrs. Amburgy came to Mentone in 1965 from Tram, Ky. She worked at M & R Egg Co.,
Mentone, was a homemaker and an accomplished poet.
Survivors include one daughter, Willa Jean PITTS, North Manchester; four sons, Harlan
[AMBURGY] Pierceton, John [AMBURGY], Burket, Phillip [AMBURGY], Talma, Rick
[AMBURGY], Fort Wayne; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elvia and
Zelvia [NEWSOME]; five brothers, Clifford, William, Cornelius, Arquillis and John Henry
NEWSOME.
Preceding in death with her husband were three sisters and one brother.
Graveside services are at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mentone Cemetery with Rev. Clifford
NEWSOME officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at King Memorial Home,
Mentone.
