He continued making news more than 60 years after he made his movie debut. His much-awaited autobiography, "Romance With Life" was recently launched.
Born Dharam Dev Pishori Anand on September 26, 1923 in Shakargarh Tehsil of Narowal District, British India (now in Pakistan) to well-to-do advocate Pishori Lal Anand. He was the second of three brothers born to Pishori Lal Anand. Dev's younger sister is Sheela Kanta Kapur, who is mother of Shekhar Kapur. His older brother was Chetan Anand and younger one was Vijay Anand. Dev graduated in English Literature from the Government College, Lahore, (Pakistan). He died in London of an apparent heart attack.
He ruled the hearts of millions of film enthusiasts for over six decades & was bid a tearful adieu as his mortal remains were consigned to flames amid the tunes of some of his most memorable songs 'Abhi Na Jao Chorke' and 'Gata Rahe Mera Dil'. The funeral ceremony was joined by a large number of people, including his family & close friends like Lord Meghnad Desai & Sahara chief Subroto Roy as his last rites were held according to Hindu tradition at the Putney Vale Crematorium.
