Joseph J. Jowers, Lt. Col. USAF, Ret., passed away on Thursday, November 5, 1998. Joe is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carmen Lydia, daughters, Brenda Brent and her husband, Andy, Sandra Larrichio and her husband, Don, Deborah Meyer and her husband, Tom, and Lydia Brazfield, all of Albuquerque, eight grandchildren, Andrea Di Saverio of Denver, CO, Michael Brent of Dallas, Tom Larrichio of Morrisville, NC, Steven Brent of Albuquerque, Dawn Meyer, Dina Larrichio and Michelle Brazfield, all of Albuquerque, and Tami Meyer of Denver, CO, four great-grandchildren, Derreck Brent, Nicole Larrichio, Anthony and Anna Marie Di Saverio; sisters, Lil Lollar, Edna Teaff, Marie Briggs, and Laura Mae Pinckley and brother, Wayland Jowers, all of Abilene, TX. Col. Jowers attended Abilene High School. Joseph was a graduate of the University of Omaha, the Air Force Commander Staff College and the Nuclear Weapons Course at Sandia Base, Albuquerque. After Air Force retirement, he owned and operated National Office Supply for 19 years. Joseph was also co-owner with wife, Lydia of Lydee's Fashions for 29 years. Col. Jowers was also very active in community affairs as a past president and district director of the Exchange Club of Albuquerque and president of the Exchange Club Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse. Joseph was past commander adjutant, and treasurer of the Commander Simpson and Lt. Col. Loring Chapter of the Military Order of World Wars. He was a member of the AF & AM Lodge 60, Ballud Abyad Shrine Legion of Honor, and Scottish Rite, 32nd Mason. Mass was celebrated on Saturday, November 7, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE, with Fr. Florian Renaud, Celebrant. Interment followed at Gate of Heaven Cemetery with Masonic AF & AM Lodge 60 presiding. Pallbearers were Andrew Brent, Don Larrichio, Tom Meyer, Tom Larrichio, Michael Brent, Steven Brent, and Jim Di Saverio. Honorary pallbearers were Gen. Franklin Miles, Major Irv. Schlenker, Col. James Calhoun, CWO Gaspar Altomare, Col. Bob Radomski, Col. Burt Terrazos, Major Dom Bernardi, M.J. Cathey, Fred Comstock, Rex Denney, Allan Stecker, Paul Olguin, John Meyer, and Ed Slater. The Jowers Family thanks their many friends and relatives whose sympathy and thoughtfulness will always be gratefully remembered and deeply appreciated.
