Richard "Roy" McAferty, 78, of McLouth, died Friday, December 2, 2011 at his home. Roy was born December 5, 1932 in the Lone Star area of Douglas County, the son of Harold "Red" and Louise Mary Boutwell McAferty. He lived most of his life in McLouth and was a 1950 graduate of McLouth High School and attended Clark's Business School in Topeka. Roy served as the Accountant for the Leavenworth-Jefferson Rural Electric CO-OP for 41 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Lyra Masonic Lodge #256 in McLouth and a former Fire Chief of the McLouth Volunteer Fire Department. He was married to Dorothy Marie Robinson on January 1, 1951 at Ozawkie, she survives at the home. Survivors include, two sons, Marlin (Josie) McAferty, Bowling Green, MO., Larry (Lynette) McAferty, Scottsdale, AZ., two daughters, Judith (Shawn) Wheeler, McLouth, Debbie (Merlin) Kesinger, McLouth, one brother, Elmer (Velma) McAferty, McLouth, one sister, Rita Dorei (Don) Powell, Ormond Beach, FL., 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edgar McAferty. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday at the Barnett Family Funeral Home, 1220 Walnut, Hwy 59 in Oskaloosa, where friends may call after 1:00 PM, Monday at the Funeral Home. A private family burial will be at McLouth Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to Jefferson County Friends of Hospice in care of the Funeral Home, P.O.
