The beloved father and husband, Donald Carl Rudisill, passed in the early morning, December 1, 2011.

He is the last remaining son of Evan and Carrie Rudisill, born in Lincoln County on July 28, 1925.

He was raised and then he raised a family in a house built by his father. He had a keen memory of his childhood and his family, growing up with his 5 brothers (Paul, Fredrick, Victor, Frank, and David) and sister (Jesse), and of his childhood friends that years later would still be his friends and his neighbors.

He was called into his country's service during WWII, serving in the Navy, and returned home to support his mother and younger siblings following the death of his father.

Donald would retire as the Office Manger of the Boger & Crawford JP Stevens Plant in 1992 after many years of service.

He was blessed every single day by his loving wife of 59 years, Patsy, and their children, son Don Jr. (Beth Mason, Cody and Randi) and daughters Jane Morton (Stephen, Joseph and Emily), Dr. Mary Rudisill (Roy and Jonas Schultz), and Sarah Hovis (Jeff, Cameron and Ayden).

The children and their families all have a special love for their "Papa" or "Pop" because he was always there, always the gentle teacher leading you toward some understanding of life and of the world, and always fixing something broken.

Pop's service to the Lincolnton First United Methodist Church, especially along with and along side of wife Pat at MYF, was a blessing to watch and to receive. He may be remembered for the many other ways he shared his life with us… as the swim team chauffer, a Boy Scout leader, road side emergency mechanic, family and local historian, MYF counselor, church kitchen crew, a life instructor, and master builder. No matter where he was he was always the wisest man in the room and everyone that knew him will miss him.

His family will be honored to receive friends Sunday, December 4, 2011 from 1:30 to 3:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church and the funeral will follow in the sanctuary at 3:30 PM. The graveside service will be at the Hollybrook Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 201 E. Main Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092, or to Hospice of Lincoln County, 107 N. Cedar Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
