Maxine D. Holden, 87, died Wednesday evening at 8:30 p.m., November 30, 2011 at Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria.
She was born May 21, 1924 in Findlay to Marion V. and Doris E. (Johnson) Fisher. On Nov. 29, 1942 she married John L. (Jack) Holden, Sr. and he survives. They had just celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary the day before her death.
She graduated from Findlay High School and attended Bowling Green State University. Mrs. Holden worked at Auto-Lite for nearly 35 years. Maxine was the first woman pilot to solo flight and earn her instrument rating at the new Fostoria airport.
Survivors also include four children, John (Gabrielle) Holden, Jr. of Bainbridge, GA; Karen (Bill) Hasselbach, of Tucson, AZ; Linda (Lanny) Piper, of Raleigh, NC; William (Brenda) of Findlay; seven grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and 7 step-great-grandchildren. Special recognition to Wayne (Verba) Habegger, Anna Mary (Truman) Fisher, and Mary (Max) Fisher and special nieces and nephews. Also a special thank you to the staff at Good Shepherd Home for their excellent care.
She was preceded in death by a twin brother, Max Fisher, another brother, Truman Fisher and two sisters, Verba Habegger and Mary Ellen Fisher.
Funeral services will be Monday (12-5-11) at 10:30 a.m. at High Street United Methodist Church, Fostoria. Pastor Becky Gray and grandson, Rev. James Holden will officiate. Burial will be in Knollcrest Cemetery, Arcadia.
Visitation will be Sunday (12-4-11) from 2:00 to 5:30 p.m. at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria.
Memorial contributions may be made to High Street United Methodist Church where she was a member for 70 years.
