DEATH OF A JUDGE. - The death of Ephriam B. Ewing, one of the judges of the supreme court of Missouri, took place quite suddenly at the Iron Mountain on the 21st inst. His disease was pronounced to be cerebro-spinal menengitis. The funeral took place last Tuesday, at 2 o'clock P.M., at the Centenary church in St. Louis and the interment at Bellefontain cemetery.

Judge Ewing was born in Kentucky, and his father was Finas Ewing, an eminent clergyman, one of the founders of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

He emigrated with his father's family,
at the age of 10 years to Saline county, Mo., in 1820;
came to St. Louis in 1842, read law in the office of Taylor & Mason,
and was admitted to the profession in 1844.

In 1848 he was appointed secretary of state, which office he filled for four years.
In 1856 he was elected attorney-general, and performed the duties of that office until August, 1859, when he was elected to the supreme bench, to fill the vacancy occasioned by the resignation of Judge Richardson. This position he occupied until 1862, when he resumed professional practice at the bar.
In 1869 he was elected one of the judges of the St. Louis circuit court.
In 1872 he was elected judge of the supreme court, and took his seat at the January term, 1873.

In all the relations of life he did well. At the bar, in public office, or on the bench, his integrity was never questioned. Of pleasant and winning manners, of a kind heart and gentle voice, he gained the respect and esteem of all who came in contact with him. But now he has passed away.

Judge Ewing was an uncle of Mrs. Dale and Mrs. Cole of this city.
