Luella "Lu" Zimmerman of Rapid City, SD, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2011, at the Golden Hills Living Center-Bella Vista.
Lu Menning was born on May 15, 1938 in Mitchell, SD, to Herman and Minnie Menning. She graduated from Corsica High School and attended Mankato State University where she graduated with an Associate degree in Business. Lu moved to Rapid City where she met her husband to be, Marvin Zimmerman. Lu & Marv were married on April 21, 1965. Their only child, a daughter Brenda, was born on February 20, 1968.
Lu was employed at Brink Construction, Girls Club Inc (YFS), and retired from Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Black Hills. She was a long time member of the First Presbyterian church in Rapid City, SD. In retirement, Lu enjoyed her time with Marv, camping, fishing, and time spent at the cabin, and on the pontoon at Angostura Lake. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, and time spent with her grandchildren.
Lu is survived by her husband, Marv; her daughter and her husband, Brenda and Scott Sinclair; three grandchildren, Rebecca, Cody, and Tessa Sinclair; one sister, Betty (Jay) Brink, Rapid City; and three nieces, Deb (Tom) Lanning, Park City, UT, Cindy (Jerry) Shagla and Stacey (Pat) Brown, both of Rapid City, SD. Lu was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Minnie Menning.
Visitation will be for one hour before services Saturday, December 3, 2011, at First Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Diane Janssen-Hemmen officiating. Private family burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests monetary donations be made to the Daisy House, the organization that brought quality to Lu's final years. All who knew her fondly remember her beautiful smile and infectious laugh, we will miss you Lu.
