He was the twelfth of thirteen children born to John Austin and Rutha Belle (Brockman) Bryant. He married Elma H. Loy. They had 3 or 4 children, but only two lived because of RH incompatibility. Their first-born son, Dennis, who was not affected by the RH incompatibility, died in a car wreck on Christmas Eve 1968 at age 20. Their daughter, Darlene, while adversely affected during the delivery process, has led a mostly healthy life. Ola and Elma spent a good portion of their lives living on Sano Road, Adair County, Kentucky, across from his older sister, Viola Mae Bryant.
