Mary Ann Wessels, 66, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, in Mercy Medical Center, Dyersville, after a long illness. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where a parish Scripture service will be held at 4 p.m. and the Dyersville Fire Department will attend as a body at 6 p.m. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. John O'Connor will officiate.

Mary Ann was born Feb. 4, 1937, in Petersburg, the daughter of Frank and Eleanor Fangmann Thole. She married Frederick Jos. Wessels on June 26, 1956, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna. Mary Ann enjoyed many summer days fishing and boating on the Mississippi River and playing cards with friends and family.

Survivors include three sons, Wayne (Vicky) Wessels of Manchester and Allan (Phyllis) Wessels and Carl (Kathy) Wessels, both of Dyersville; a daughter, Gail (Mike) Lehman of New Vienna; 13 grandchildren, Mollie, Michelle, Megan, Kristen, Audrey, Tim, Brian, Nathan and Morgan Wessels and Jacob, Joseph, Jeremy and Jason Lehman; three sisters, Alice (Richard) Olberding of Dyersville, Rita (Floyd) Feldman of Hopkinton and Viola (Erwin) Klostermann of Manchester; two brothers, Linus Thole of Dyersville and Alfred (Clarinda) Thole of Manchester; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Thole of Dyersville and Lillian Wessels of Farley; and three brothers-in-law, Earl (Ruth) Wessels and Louis (Kay) Wessels, both of New Vienna, and Leon (Eileen) Wessels of Dyersville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred Joseph, on May 23, 2002; two brothers, Charles and Francis Thole; and a brother-in-law, James Wessels.

The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation and thanks to the oncology staff at Medical Associates and Finley Hospital. A special thank you to Hospice of Dubuque and the staff of Mercy Medical Center, Dyersville.
