His parents moved to Morgan co. IL. in 1827. On Oct 6,1843 They came to sec 24 of Agency Twp in Wapello co. In 1868 he came to Ottumwa. In 1868 & 1869 he was sheriff of the county. He was also in the livery and grocery business until 1875 when he moved to the farm.
While a resident of Agency he was a 3 yr member of the County Board of Supervisors and held various other Twp offices.
Husband of Eleanor DeFord whom was a daughter of Thomas DeFord and Eleanor CLINE DeFord. He was the father of George Thomas Bedwell, Emma BEDWELL Connelly, Adoniram Judson Bedwell, Charles Edgar Bedwell, Brehilda BEDWELL Dennis, and Rachel Eleanor BEDWELL Gray. Thomas died of Typhoid Fever.
