Probably eldest of 10 of William H. and Mary Welsh Mackey, Sarah married William Twitty, the son of John Twitty,JR, in 1789 in SC. They traveled with both families to Barren C. KY
In 1801 a son was born to Sarah and William, probably named John Fredrick.

The Mackey land bordered the Cherokee Nation, which was a civilized tribe with a government that made treaties with the United States. For unclear reasons, Sarah next appears as the mother of 3 daughters, the children of a Cherokee who is unnamed in the records, in Smith and White Co. TN. In 1820 she is living in Jackson Co. TN. In 1830 in White Co. TN. She seems to have been living with her sisters' families. She no longer appears with William Twitty's family.

In 1837 Sarah, a daughter Shuby, and 3 children moved to Elk Prairie Twp. IL. Sarah purchased 40 acres in McClellan Twp on 22 Nov. 1837.

She was married in Jefferson Co. on 19 Sep 1838 by Jonathon Wells, Esquire, to neighbor James Bodine (1772 VA-1843 IL). They entered into a legal agreement that "neither would exercise any influence over the other's possessions now or in the future" which was notarized and signed on Jan 28, 1842.

Her grave is one of many in the old part with stone lost, unreadable or buried. Family tradition says she was buried here.
