He settled in Winchester prior to 1775. Was a Revolutionary Soldier in Winchester; was Corporal in Capt. Reuben Alexander's Company, Col. Samuel Ashley's Regiment, that marched from Cheshire Co. at the requisition of Maj. Gen. Gates, to reinforce the army at Ticonderoga, in Oct. 1776; served as a private in Capt. Oliver Capron's Company, Col. Samuel Ashley's Regiment, in June and July, 1777; was also a private in Capt. Elisha Whitcomb's Company, Col. Timothy Bedel's Regiment, in Feb. and March, 1777. (N. H. He signed the new church covenant in Winchester, Nov. 14, 1764. His wife, Sarah, was admitted to full communion July 7, 1765.

He signed the "Association Test" as a resident of Winchester NH on a return made June 3, 1776. May 25, 1786, he deeded one-half of his farm on the Warwick Road to his son, David. January 7, 1806, his son, David, in consideration of the sum of $1,200, paid him by Abel Hammond, gave a bond "to care for, give a home, room, provender and certain privileges of visitors, etc., to Abel and Sarah Hammond during life."
