J. D. Rodgers, 81, formerly of Merkel died March 11 in a Temple hospital. Graveside services with military honors were held March 15 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel with Rev. Cody Cochran officiating.
Rodgers was born April 27, 1924 in Merkel to Dewey and Lola Mae Harrison Rodgers.
He attended Merkel schools and was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.
J. D. worked for Brown & Root for 25 years as a crane operator and rigger. He was also a farmer and life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Elvis Rodgers.
Survivors include two daughters, Lynda Jane Henry and husband Jim of Cameron, Kathi Dianne Ewell and husband Ira of Baytown; a son, Larry Mack Rodgers and fiance' Sharon Moran of Crosby; sister, Jean Rutledge and husband Donald of Abilene; brother, Royce Rodgers and wife Sharon of Mountain Home; nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
