PROMINENT CITIZEN DIED WEDNESDAY AT THE HOME OF HIS DAUGHTER
J. L. Dorsey, aged 75 years, passed away Wednesday night July 3, after several weeks illness at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. D. George, in Blooming Grove.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Friday morning at 10 o'clock with Rev. P. W. Utley officiating. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery with McCormick's Funeral Service in charge.
Mr. Dorsey was born in Alabama February 3, 1860, moved to Kaufman, Texas at the age of 19 years and had lived in Blooming Grove for the past 43 years, for 25 years he was a merchant. He has been retired for the past 18 years. Mr. Dorsey was one of Blooming Grove's most influential citizens, was a faithful member of the Methodist church for many years. It can truthfully be said that he was a friend to man. The beautiful floral offering was a token of the love and esteem by which he was held.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J. D. George of Blooming Grove; and Mrs. W. J. Spurlock of Denton; two sisters, Mrs. J. H. Hope of Blooming Grove; and Mrs. Hester Stringer of Memphis, Tennessee. Six brothers, J. T. Dorsey of Dallas; E. C. Dorsey of San Antonio; Dr. Herbert Dorsey of Fort Smith Arkansas; Cleveland Dorsey of Memphis, Tennessee; Lawrence and George Dorsey of New Albany Mississippi.
