He was born April 30, 1925 in New Martinsville, the son of the late Harry and Bessie Durig Burton.
Fred was a retired pipefitter at PPG Industries; a member of the First Baptist Church in New Martinsville; and a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He loved sports, especially WVU, and loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mary Jo Burlingame Burton; a son, Bill (Rhonda) Burton of New Martinsville; three daughters, Janet (Dr. Don) Willett of Agawan, MA.; Kimberly (Dr. Tom) Witzenberger of Baco Raton, FL and Leslie Burton Martin of Wheelersburg, OH; a brother, Robert "Bob" (Sharon) Burton of Paden City, WV.; a sister, Frona Starcher of New Martinsville; six grandchildren, Heather Willett, Ashley Witzenberger, Ryan Willett, Alexandra Witzenberger, Ariel Witzenberger and Meredith Willett; two graet-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Family received friends on Thursday from 4-9 pm at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third Steet, New Martinsville and on Friday, from 12 pm. until time of funeral service at 1:00 pm at the First Baptist Church, 841 Fourth Street, New Martinsville, with Rev. Don Biram officiating.
Interment was in Northview Cemetery, New Martinsville, WV, where the Honor Guard of New Martinsville, Paden City and Sistersville conducted grave side services.
