Death of an Old Citizen.

We chronicle with regret, the death of Maj. Benj. Morrow, an old citizen of Charlotte, died on Sunday. At the time of his death, Maj. Morrow was 85 years of age, lacking five days. He was born in Lancaster County, S. C., but has been a citizen of Charlotte since 1838. For years before this time, however, he had lived at what is now Morrow’s Turn Out, in the southern part of the county. He was a soldier in the War of 1812, during which he gained the title of Major. He was married twice; his first wife was a Miss White, and his second a daughter of Governor Hawkins, of this State; she survives him. Major Morrow has been very feeble for several years past, rarely ever leaving the house, and his death Was by no means unexpected, though for two or three days past he had seemed no worse than usual.
Up to the time that declining years forced him to withdraw from active life, Maj. Morrow had been a prominent citizen of Mecklenburg County. In the year 1836, he with Green W. Caldwell and John Walker, represented the county in the House of Commons of the State Legislature. He has frequently held other public positions of trust, and in every way possessed to the fullest, the confidence of the people among whom he lived. He was an honest, upright, Christian gentleman. He died in the faith of the Episcopal Church and from that church in this city his funeral took place yesterday afternoon, and was attended by a considerable concourse of people.
Thus one by one of the landmarks of the olden times are being gathered to their fathers, and their taking of recalls the exclaimation of the inspired writer: "The fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?"
