She was born Opal Nadine Sorge in Indianola, Oklahoma to James and Nancy Sorge on September 23, 1919.
At the age of nineteen she married Ramon Converse, and moved to San Marino, California, where she lived for thirty years. She and her husband raised three children in San Marino: her son Donald Converse and daughters Carole Quintana and Deborah Converse Farino.
Opal was a member of San Gabriel Union Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir.
She was also an active member of the Business and Professional Women's Club. She worked as a full-charge Bookkeeper through out her life, until she retired at the age of eighty, and moved to Arcadia Gardens Retirement Center.
Opal is survived by her children, Donald and daughter-in-law Doretta of Santa Clarita, daughter Carole of Duarte and daughter Deborah and son-in-law Dan of Monrovia, her sister Alline Barnes of Mesa, Arizona; and five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Monday, December 5, 2011 at Oakdale Mortuary, 1401 South Grand Avenue, Glendora. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Grace Church of Glendora,
1515 South Glendora Avenue, Glendora.
