Catherine A. "Kay" McKee, 91, of Elyria, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at EMH Regional Medical Center. Born in Fort Wayne, Ind., she lived in Elyria most of her life. A 1932 Elyria High School graduate, she attended Elyria Business College and the Oberlin College Conservatory. She taught piano and organ until 1939 at which time she developed arthritis. Attending college again, she bacme an accountant and had her own accounting business for 10 years. She then worked for the World War II recruiting office for eight years.
Later, she was office manager for Albee Homes Inc. in Henrietta Township. After working for them for four years, she was chosen from 50 women to be the only woman on the road for the company, handling a territory consisting of 50 offices in 10 states. Miss McKee attended Grace Lutheran Church her entire life, where she taught Sunday school for 10 years, sang in the choir, directed the first children's choir in 1937 and taught Vacation Bible School for three years. She was president of the Women's Guild twice, a member of Altar Society and church organist for 25 years.
Miss McKee also was key lady to the auiliary of the Lutheran Home in Westlake for eight years. She was a former member of the Musical Art Society, the Quota Club, the Pentagon Club of the YWCA and Missionary Society. She was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, the Senior Citizens, the Elyria Women's Democratic Club, the Socialites, and Friends of the Elyria Public Library. She worked in voting booths for 13 years and on other civic projects. She chaired her high school class reunion through to the 50th reunion.
Survivors include a stepsister, Iva Lee Mann of South Point; a nephew; and two cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry McKee in 1967 and Agnes McKee (nee Law) in 1963.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m. April 3 at Grace Lutheran Church, 9685 East River Road, Elyria. The Rev. Dr. Henry Baum, pastor, will officiate. Internment will be at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
