Kenneth William Maruska was born on March 25, 1923 in Cresco, Iowa, the son of William and Emma (Hosek) Maruska. He was baptized in his faith at St. Joseph's Church in Cresco, and was confirmed at Our Lady of Lourdes. When he was two years old, the family moved to the farm and lived with his grandfather. He attended the Paris #9 and the Rinn School through the eighth grade. He then went one year to the Parochial School in Lourdes and one year in Elma. Ken was living with an aunt and uncle near Ft. Atkinson when he received a notice from Uncle Sam to report for a physical. Following his medical discharge, Ken was going to go to diesel school, but he would have had to go to Chicago and the folks didn't want Ken to leave home. Instead, Kenny worked for three winters at Oliver Corporation in Charles City. Kenny was a farmer at heart and decided to stay on the farm taking care of his parents until their death.

Kenny liked playing baseball and basketball as a young man and when he got older enjoyed playing horseshoe. He enjoyed watching and feeding the birds, something he continued after he went into the nursing home. He enjoyed farming and loved baby calves. His favorite chore was bedding down the calves. Ken was also a very religious person and many times went to daily mass when the church was still very active. In 2002 he entered the Howard Residential Care Facility where he spent three years and has spent the last four years at Colonial Manor where he was very appreciative of the care he received.
Ken is survived by one nephew, Robert (Betty) Hosek of Elma, great nieces and nephews, and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert and his wife Nellie Hosek; and a niece: Patricia Schneider.
