Clark’s Hill, Indiana, March 15 - Harvey Ely Marcum, a prominent retired farmer, died at his home here today following a short illness. Although he had been under the care of a physician for several weeks he was confined to his bed only one forenoon. Mr. Marcum was born December 13, 1842, in Virginia. On September 22, 1863, he and Sallie Jane Bryant were united in marriage near Somerset, Ky, and in 1894 they came to Clark’s Hill. Five children were born to this union. The surviving sons and daughters are Charles P. Marcum, of New Augusta, Indiana; William H. Marcum, of Lafayette; Mae Marcum Jacobs, of Indianapolis, and James M. Marcum, of Chicago. One daughter, Mattie E. McKittrick, passed away in 1900. With his wife and children present, Mr. Marcum celebrated his eighty-third birthday December 13, 1925. Mrs. Marcum will be 79 the twenty-second of April. Mr. Marcum was well versed in all important topics of the day and was an entertaining conversationalist. Funeral services will be conducted from the family home here with Rev. Martindale, of the Remington, Indiana Christian church, officiating at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon.
