Derrick had spent the last five years working as a machinist at (IFB) Industries For The Blind, Winston Salem, North Carolina, which he loved so dear and the friends there were to many to account.
The Joys and pleasures of his life were his family, three sons, LaJuan, Derrick Jr. (DJ), DiQuan and one daughter Akeyla all of Charlotte; two grandsons, Tanner of Charlotte, and Juan Jr. of Texas . His father, Isaiah H. Russell of Shelby; one sister, Alvon Russell Freeman (Gene) of Charlotte; three brothers, Gregory Russell (LaVonne) of Winston Salem, Brandon Russell of Gastonia, and Shun Russell (Jennifer) of Charlotte, a very special aunt Mary Parks; a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Derrick was preceded in death, by our beloved mother, Christine Sims Russell; a special uncle Geodes Parks; and a very special friend, Bam. What a reunion "Heaven" had a party on Wednesday evening as Derrick entered the gates to join family and friends who all preceded him in death.
Visitation: The family will meet at the home of Derrick father Isiah H. Russell at Charles Place 216 Dillinger Road, Apt. 207
Funeral Service: 2 p.m. Thursday at New Ellis Chapel Baptist Church
