Wayne Harris Elam, 71, Savannah, Missouri passed on his own terms on Saturday, October 03, 2009 in his home. He was born on October 1, 1938 in Winfield, Kansas to Daniel and Della (Bullins) Elam. Wayne was a 1956 graduate of Winfield, Kansas High School and graduate of Foothill Junior College in Palo Alto, California. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1959. Wayne lived in Mountain View, California and worked for Hewlett Packard in Mountain View, California from 1959 to 1971. He moved to Savannah in 1971 and was a Shelter Insurance Agent in Savannah from 1971 to 1983. Wayne also
owned The Bait Shop, Elam Car Wash and Elam Antiques for 10 years. He was a school bus driver for 13 years with Savannah R III School District and was an antique dealer at Jesse James Antique Mall. Wayne married Shirley Ann (Schmitt) on March 11, 1990 in Savannah, Missouri and she preceded him in death on March 13, 2002. Wayne was also preceded in death by his parents; 8 brothers; 3 sisters. Wayne was a Christian and a former member of the Seratoma Club, Savannah, Missouri, and the board of directors of R.S.V.P. in Andrew County, The Turtle Club, member of Boy Scouts Troop #60 and Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He loved fishing, auctions, antiquing, Tae Kwon Do, spending time with his family, and The Motley Crew. Survivors: sons and their fiancés, Robert Elam and Kimberly Taylor, Savannah, MO, Danny Elam and Lori Shrode, Kernville, California; daughter and son-in-law, Kelley and Charles Lacina, St. Joseph, MO; stepson and his wife, Mitch and Patty McBride, Savannah, MO; stepdaughter and her husband, Michelle and Jeffrey Tietz, Platte City, MO; a brother, Arthur Elam, Lake of Ozarks, MO; a sister, Patricia Rockhold, Arkansas City, KS; 14 grandchildren, Miranda and Levi Elam, Katherine, Stephen, Caroline and Kristene Lacina, Trevor and Tyler Tietz, Kathy and James McBride, Tyler Doty, Erica and Karly Kataldo, and Cayla James. Celebration of Life: 10 AM Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Breit-Hawkins & Gladden Funeral Home, Savannah, Missouri. Interment with full military honors under the auspices of American Legion Dick Munkres Post #287 in Savannah, Missouri Cemetery. Public viewing and family receiving hours 6-8 PM Wednesday. Memorial donations to Pancreatic Cancer Research.
