U.S. Congressman. Born in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, he studied law in Steubenville, Ohio, was admitted to the bar in 1817 and commenced to practice law in Cambridge, Ohio. He was Major General of the 15th Division, Ohio Militia, prosecuting attorney of Guernsey County, (1818-32), justice of the peace in 1830 and a member of the Ohio State House of Representatives, (1826-31). In 1833, he was elected as an Anti-Jacksonian to the Twenty-third Congress, serving until 1835. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he served as Mayor of Cambridge, Ohio (1838-40) and practiced of law until his death at age 52.
