Samuel is the 3rd son of Love Statham Humphreys and Mary nee Ramsey.
Samuels first wife was Emma Simpson Regnier,, they married 21, Feb. 1861, she was b.1844 and d.27,May,1876. children of this marriage;Samuel Cobell, Frances E., Harry H., Mary E., C. Victoria, Leroy B.
Samuel married for a second time on 28,June,1893 in Akron to Martha Peckham, They had one child; Cornlia H.

Rev. Samuel C. Humphrey passed away rather suddenly and unexpectedly about 6 o'clock Sunday morning at his home at 809 Crosby St. His death was due to apoplexy, with which he had been afflicted for some time. The deceased was born in Madison, Indiana November 13, 1832 and was therefore aged 73 years, 6 months and 14 days. At the age of 2 years, he moved to Petersburg, Illinois with his parents. Petersburg is two miles from the chidhood home of Abraham Lincoln, and Rev. Humphrey knew him as a boy and as a struggling young lawyer. Rev. Humphrey graduated at Bethany College, West Virginia in 1858 and was married to Miss Emma Simpson Regnier of Petersburg, Illinois February 21, 1861. She died May 27, 1876, preceding him just 30 years. On June 28, 1893, Rev. Humphrey married Miss Martha Peckham of Akron.

Rev Humphrey taught in the public schools of Petersburg and spent 41 years in the ministry. He was pastor of the Broad Street Church of Christ in this city from 1890 to 1893. His last charge was at Ceina, Ohio and after that, he retired from the ministry in 1902 and returned to this city. Besides his second wife, he is survived by children by his first marriage and one daughter by his second marriage. They are: The Misses Mary E. and C. Victoria Humphrey, Dr. Leroy B Humphrey of this city: Harry H. Humphrey and Samuel C. Humphrey of Buffalo: and Miss Cornelia H. Humphrey of this city. Funeral services will be held at the Broad Street Church of Chirst Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Burial will be in the East Akron cemetery.
