Sergeant Blake Smith served in the U.S. Army for twenty-two years. He first enlisted in the artillery in 1899 at Cleveland, Ohio. All of his following enlistments were in the infantry. Besides four tours of duty in the Phillippines, he also served four years in the Hawaiian Islands. His home stations included Fort McHenry, MD; Fort Sam Houston, TX; Presidio of San Francisco; Fort Logan, CO; Fort Thomas, KY; Camp Kearny, CA; Fort Leavenworth, KS; and lastly Claremont, CA where he retired from active service in the ROTC.
