Emily, as she was known, arrived from Liverpool, England along with father Thomas Evans Carr and brother Thomas Moody Carr on December 31, 1894 aboard the ship Etruria.

She married Joseph Matthews, a fellow immigrant from England and veteran of the Royal Navy, in 1905. To this union was born a daughter Anna Mae in 1909.

By 1920 Emily was divorced. She and Anna were living back in New Jersey near her family. After a long correspondence to a widower in North Dakota she and Anna boarded a westbound train heading to North Dakota.

On 17 April 1921 Emily married William J. Storie. She bore him 3 sons, William, George, and Howard. She and Howard died due to complications during childbirth and are buried in the same casket.

She was survived by her husband, children, father and brother in New Jersey, and a sister, Selena, living in England.
