Born to John J. and Martha J. (Patterson) Parkhill in Claysville, Ohio. The family moved to Hamilton Co., Illinois after the Civil War. She married George Monroe Mitchell, a widower and Union veteran, at her folk's home in 1879. She moved to Poseyville, Indiana where she took care of her step-children and had two of her own; Geo. M. and John King Mitchell. Sometime later they all moved to Saline Co., IL. Widowed in 1895 she collected a Union Soldier's Widows pension. Maggie and her two sons moved to Dahlgren where the boys continued in their schooling. She lived her later years out at her son, George's home in Darien, Wisconsin. Upon death she was returned to her home town area and buried near family.
