Remains of Peter Orn Laid to Rest at New London - Sketch of His Life
__________________________________________

New London, Ia., May 21 - This community was shocked Thursday to hear of the death of one of its most beloved and well-known citizens, Mr. Peter Orn, having seemingly been in his usual health until Saturday, when he complained of not feeling well, and did not appear seriously ill until Wednesday night, when he complained of pains in his chest. His daughter, fearing his lungs might be affected, sent for a doctor and while everything that kind and loving hands could was done, he died Thursday morning surrounded by his entire family of children, the trouble being heart failure.

Mr. Orn was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, in 1823, making him 86 years old last January. He lived there until the 8th year when he moved with his parents to Berry* County, Ohio, and came to New London in 1841. In 1851 he married one of New London's fair daughters, Miss Christina North. To them were born six children, five of whom are living in this community and all at his bedside when the last sad summons came. The children are Homer, Emma, James, Effie, and John. Mrs. Orn died some eight years ago, leaving two daughters and one son single, who have administered with loving care to their father in his last years.

Mr. Orn was a remarkably well preserved man and looked after his garden making until last Saturday. He was also very respected by the entire community. The family has the deepest sympathy of everyone in this hour of sorrow.

The funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon, Rev. Mr. Barker conducting the services. The remains were laid to rest by the side of his wife in Berg** cemetery.
