A memorial service will be held at the West Liberty Community Center. Visitation will be held at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial with military honors will be held in the Fredonia Cemetery, Fredonia Iowa.
Rusty was born October 31, 1931 in Rock Island, Illinois the son of Ronald and Lela Mickey Brotherton. He was a graduate of West Liberty High School in 1949 as the president of his class.
Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was a member of an 80 man team of President Harry S. Truman's presidential honor guard from 1949-1953.
He later received his B.A. from UCLA in 1960 and Master of Fine Arts from UCLA in 1961. He later attended the University of Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico.
He was united in marriage to Lucille Pluim of Sioux Center, Iowa, they later divorced.
He was a student all his life; always learning something new.
He was a member of American Legion and was commander, served as Mayor of Tiffin and was a volunteer fireman. He recently was a recipient of a West Liberty Rotary award.
Survivors include two children: Chad Ryan Brotherton of Melbourne, Florida and Mary Luzette Neaton of Plymouth, Minnesota. 6 Grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Aunts: Mary Mickey and Dorothy Parson and Uncle John Mickey.
