Elsie Spiekerman, 103, of Gilford, died early Friday morning, May 13, 2011 at her daughter's home near Fairgrove. She was December 23, 1907 in Gilford Township, Tuscola County, daughter of the late August and Caroline (Schmidt) Haske. On June 3, 1928 she was married to John Spiekerman. He predeceased her April 5, 1993. Mrs. Spiekerman was a homemaker all of her life and was the oldest active life member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Reese. She enjoyed gardening and crocheting.
Surviving are her five daughters and their spouses, Arlene Daenzer of Condon, Montana; Bernadine and Alvin Mielens of Fairgrove; Shirley and Donald Mielens of Munger; Ruth Ann and John Kaijala of Fairgrove and Joyce and Robert Simpson of Munger; twenty-six grandchildren, forty-six great-grandchildren, thirty-one great- great-grandchildren, one great-great-great grandchild, and several step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her daughter-in-law, Ramona Spiekerman of Bay City; and her sister-in-law, Mildred Spiekerman of Reese. In addition to her parents and husband, Elsie was predeceased by her son, Kenneth Spiekerman, her son-in-law, Ralph Daenzer, one grandson, Brian Howell, and two great-grandchildren, Stephany Mielens and Isaac Collins.


~FUNERAL~
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2011 from the Christ Lutheran Church in Reese. Rev. Tom Senge will officiate with burial to take place later in the Gilford Township Cemetery.
