Jessie L. Black Schamel, 79, of North Vernon, died Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, at St. Andrew's Health Campus in Batesville.

She was born Aug. 8, 1932, in Owenton, Ky., the daughter of Arthur and Susie Bradney Jackson. She had managed apartments for Cardinal Industries and also was the former manager of the North Vernon Airport. She had attended Bethel Baptist Church in North Vernon and New Marion Baptist Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star at North Vernon and also belonged to the National Rifle Association.

She is survived by one daughter, Cheryll Obendorf of Olean; five sons, Charles Black of Newport, Ore., James Black of Milan, John Black and Bill Black, both of North Vernon, and Scott Schamel of Louisville, Ky.; two step daughters, Pamela Carroll of Floyds Knobs and Cheryl Boren of New Albany; one sister, Bessie Gourd of Dry Ridge, Ky.; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Black, whom she married Nov. 1, 1950, and who died Dec. 24, 1966; her husband, Olin Schamel, whom she married Nov. 22, 1967, and who died Sept. 24, 1999; one daughter, Marla Robles; one brother, Donald Jackson; one sister, Ruth Caroline Jackson; and one grandson.

The funeral was at Versailles Baptist Church. Burial was in the Cliff Hill Cemetery.
