Gladys Adamson Hackworth, 84, of Cypress and formerly of College Station, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 22, 2010 in Houston.
A visitation is scheduled for Friday, February 26, from 4 to 8 p.m. with the funeral service at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 27, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station with Larry Burkhalter officiating.
Gladys was born to Arthur and Rebecca Erwin Adamson in Ravenden, Arkansas. She married Almon Thomas Hackworth on January 4, 1943. She and Almon moved from Houston to Franklin in 1971, Almon served as a deacon and Gladys was the church secretary at Bald Prairie Baptist Church. In 1987, they moved from Franklin to College Station.
Gladys was devout Southern Baptist and a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. She was active and enjoyed her bible study class "The Golden Girls" she loved sharing her relationship with Jesus with others. Gladys enjoyed entertaining family and friends in her home. She loved to cook; everything was home made of course.
She loved to read, garden, and kept in touch with family and friends through letters. She taught her children and grandchildren to enjoy reading, cooking and about Jesus.
Preceding Gladys in death are her parents, her loving husband, Almon Thomas Hackworth, and her sisters, Faye Cunningham and Ruth Davis.
Surviving her are her sons, Thomas Anthony and wife, Ann Hackworth, and Teddy C. Hackworth; a very special couple who are friends of the family, David and Sandra Guyton; special friend who was noted to be like Gladys' daughter, Pat Kissinger Botthoff; her brothers, Octavis Adamson and wife, Mary Lee, Ray and Penny Anderson; her grandchildren, Edward Hackworth, Toni Hermis, and Amanda Ranallo; great-grandchildren, Tara Hackworth, Corbin and Carson Hermis, Victoria Ranallo; and one great-great-grandson, Brayden Hemphill.
Gladys held a special place everyone's heart and will be deeply missed.
