They settled in Waxahachie shortly thereafter and together owned and operated Riley Typewriter Shop for 42 years prior to their retirement in 1980.

Lila was a member of First Baptist Church in Waxahachie where she taught in the Beginners 5-year old Sunday School for forty years. She was a member of the Builders Sunday School Department, and a former member of the Waxahachie Chapter of the American Business Women's Association.
