Mother of Prominent Village Residents Dies in California -- Burial Here
Mrs. Mary A. Rehm, mother of two prominent village residents passed away Saturday, May 31, at her home in Long Beach, Cal. Services were held in Long Beach Sunday, June 1, conducted by the pastor of the Carroll Park Methodist church and a second service at the chapel at Forest Home ceneter Thursday afternoon in charge of the Rev. W. H. Hill. Interment was also at Forest Home.
Mrs. Rehm was born in Watertown, N. Y., March 20, 1844, living a full life of devotion to her family, home and church.
She went with her parents to Chicago and in 1867 married Andrew Rehm. For many years Mr. Rehm was in the hardware business in Chicago and the business is still conducted by relatives under the name of Rehm Hardware company.
There were five children of which three survive, Col. Arthur D. Rehm, 1145 Wisconsin avenue, chairman of the village park board, chairman and grand marshal of the Memorial day parade which he has led for many years. His mother's illness took him to Long Beach recently and prevented him from leading the parade this year for the eleventh time. Also Alice L. Rehm of Long Beach, Cal., and Leonard F. Rehm of 620 South Oak Park avenue.
Mrs. Rehm spent six years in Oak Park, living at Maple avenue and Harvard, previous to her going to Long Beach where she has made her home for the past 25 years. She was a great lover of flowers and her garden, where she spent many hours was one of the beauty spots of Long Beach.
She made her last visit to Oak Park about four years ago.
Besides her two sons and daughter, Mrs. Rehm leaves a sister, 93 years of age, of Pasadena, Cal.
