Rose Shepard, 78, of Gorham, was pronounced dead on arrival Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Granite City. She had been ill for quite some time.

She was born at Sato Nov. 18, 1893, the daughter of Robert and Angeline Harrison Edwards. She married Mitchell Shepard July 24, 1911 at Murphysboro. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Shepard had been a member of the Sand Ridge Baptist Church.

She is survived by three sons, Earl of Baltimore, MD, John of Portsmouth, NJ, and Jack of Gorham; two daughters, Mrs. Angee Tindall of Granite City and Mrs. Lydia McBride of Murphysboro; two brothers, Arch Edwards of Murphysboro and Roy Edwards of Gorham; three sisters, Mrs. Della Mitchell of Herrin, Mrs. Fay Cleveland of St. Louis, Mo. and Mrs. Alma Levan of East St. Louis; 16 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Sand Ridge Baptist Church. The Rev. Jimmie D. Mifflin will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Ava. Friends may call at the Wilson Funeral Home after 3 p.m. today.
