"Clarissa Elizabeth McLaughlin, daughter of Mary and Alexander McLaughlin was born in Martin county Indiana, March 22, 1841 and passed away at Frederick, Kansas, December 23, 1927, age 66 years, 9 months and 1 day. She came to Kansas with her two older brothers when about 16 years old and was united in marriage to Reuben Buckbee January 16, 1879, and has lived in this vicinity since that time, excepting about eleven years spent in other places. She was a pioneer member of the First Baptist church located at old Kansas Center. She was a faithful attendant of this church, a devoted mother, a kind and loving neighbor, thoughtful of others, always willing to assist others whenever possible. She endured the many hardships of an early settler. Having reared a large family of thirteen children of whom three passed on before her, Mary Ellen and Omar in early chilhood and Lea Nora, just six years ago and leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, 4 brothers, Charles, George and Sampson, all of Illinois and Albert of Houston Texas; two sisters, Fannie Sebert and Mary Hawkins of Schools, Indiana,; ten children, Noah of Cammas, Washington, David of Woodland, Washington, William of Manning, Kansas, Ethel Fossum of Yale, Washington, Adelia McKenna of Fargo, Oklahoma, Oliver of Hutchinson, Kansas, Ruth Fuson of Lyons, Kansas, and Milton, Alfred and Marion, all of this vicinity. Twenty-two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.G. White at the Baptist church Monday, December 26, 1927, at 2:00 p.m. Burial was in the Lyons cemetery.

Clarissa was one of nine children born to Alexander McLaughlin (1838-1896) and Mary Ann Sheeks* (1838-1885).

Note: Father, Alexander McLaughlin married Mary Ann Sheeks* on Feb. 21, 1857 in Lawrence Co., Indiana. After her death in 1885 he married Mary Kirkley Fisher on Feb. 8, 1888.
