Lonnie Leo Bewley was born on January 31, 1932 in Barren County, Kentucky to James Anderson and Perni Maye Bewley. He was one of five children born to the couple during their marriage. He was raised in Glasgow on a tobacco farm and farmed tobacco during his youth, when he graduated from Temple Hill High School in Temple Hill, Kentucky, in 1949. Thereafter, he honorably served in the United States Air Force at Sheppard Air Force Base from 1951 to 1953. In 1956, he graduated from Western State Teachers' College in Bowling Green, Kentucky [Western Kentucky University (WKU)] and thereafter moved to New Orleans to attend Tulane University Law School on a full scholarship, where he graduated in 1959. He was admitted to the Louisiana State Bar that year, and dedicated his life to the legal profession. He was a Member of the International Legal Fraternity of Phi Delta Phi, initiated in 1957; and was a Member of the Tulane Moot Court from 1958 to 1959. Mr. Bewley was a Senior Partner with the nationally recognized Firm of Foley & Judell, L.L.P., where he practiced as a bond attorney in the area of public finance for over 50 years. In addition to the Louisiana State Bar Association, Mr. Bewley was a Member of the American Bar Association and the National Association of Bond Lawyers. He also served as an adjunct Professor at Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge for a brief period. He was recently honored by the Louisiana State Bar Association as a 50 year practitioner of law, and was actively practicing law at the time of his death.

Mr. Bewley was an avid golfer and a Member of the Western State Teachers' College/WKU Golf Team, where he attended on a golf scholarship. He also played Exhibition Golf and represented Parks Air Force Base (California) in Pro-Am tournaments during his service in the United States Air Force. He was a former Member of the Metairie Country Club and the Oakbourne Country Club, where he participated in numerous golf tournaments; and, he was a current Member of the Iberia Golf and Country Club.

Mr. Bewley was also a Charter Member of the Krewe of Bacchus in New Orleans, Louisiana.A true Louisiana Sportsman and adopted Cajun, Mr. Bewley spent a significant amount of time with his family and friends at Cypremort Point. He enjoyed fishing and received multiple fishing rodeo awards. He was a scholarly writer, speaker and teacher, and a mentor to many.

Mr. Bewley is survived by his beloved wife and companion of 40 years, Linda Ann Thibodeaux Bewley, of Lafayette; three daughters, Teresa Darlene Bewley and her husband, Ralph Roy Habbaz, of New Orleans, Danielle M. Smith, of Lafayette, and Aida Bewley, of Cincinatti, Ohio; a son, Lonnie Luis Bewley, of New Orleans, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of whom are dearly loved; a brother, Hershell Elvin Bewley, of Macon, Georgia, and a sister Jean Bowles, of Glasgow, Kentucky. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Additionally, he is further survived by his dedicated legal assistant of 24 years, Cindy Henley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Anderson Bewley and Pernie Bailey Bewley, of Glasgow, Kentucky; two brothers, James Wallace Bewley and Wilbur Howard Bewley, of Glasgow, Kentucky.

He is loved and will be sadly missed by many.Pallbearers will be Ralph Roy Habbaz, Shepherd LaSales Shelton, III, Hunter Fredrick Arceneaux, Phillip Thibodeaux, Rene Thibodeaux, Chad Thibodeaux and Barry Simar. Honorary Pallbearers will be Merton Thibodeaux, H.L.
