Death of Maj. J.H. McBlair

Maj. J.H. McBlair, one of the old residents of the city, died yesterday at his residence, 2027 I street. He was in his 79th year, and while his health during the past six months has not been as good as usual, still there was nothing in his condition to alarm his friends. Yesterday about noon he laid down on a lounge, saying that he did not feel very well. In an hour afterward he had passed quietly away. Maj. McBlair at the breaking out of the war organized a company for the defense of this city. He was subsequently made paymaster in the army and served through the war. He was a man of many lovable qualities and had a wide circle of friends.

Obituary for Augusta - "On Sunday, June 7, 1903 at her residence, 2029 I street, Augusta McBlair, widow of Major John Hollins McBlair and daughter of the late John Gadsby. Burial from St. Paul's Church, 23rd street on Wednesday, July 10 at 11 o'clock a.m. Interment private."

Death of Mrs. McBlair

Mrs. Augusta McBlair, widow of Maj. John Hollins McBlair, paymaster in the army during the civil war, died yesterday at her home, 2029 I street, aged 87 years. She is survived by four children, Mr. Charles McBlair, Andrew Jackson McBlair, Mrs. Virginia Gadsby Smith and Miss Julia TenEyck McBlair. The deceased was born in Baltimore and was the daughter of John Gadsby, once proprietor of what is now known as the National Hotel. The funeral will take place Wednesday from St. Paul's Church, 23d street, and the interment will be in Congressional cemetery.
