U.S. Congressman. After attending the University of Mississippi and the University of Alabama, he relocated to Ohio and was a reporter for the Cincinnati Enquirer. With the outbreak of World War I, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served (1917 to 1919). After the war, he studied law, was admitted to the bar, in 1924 and proceeded to practice law in Meridian, Mississippi. Entering politics, he was district attorney for the tenth judicial district of Mississippi, (1931 to 1934) and elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fourth Congress, serving (1935 to 1937). Not a candidate for re-nomination, he served as expert to the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance, in 1938 and as attorney for the Social Security Board, in 1939. He then resumed the practice of law, was special trial attorney of the U.S. Attorney General's office, (1952 to 1953) and circuit judge, Tenth Judicial District, Mississippi, retiring in 1966.
